Construction

The OverSight system from Locus Traxx makes each piece of your construction equipment self-reporting. Even non-powered equipment like trailers can be monitored.

Real-time information on the location and status of each piece of remote equipment is automatically sent to your desktop using a combination of active RFID sensors, GPS location tracking, and cellular or satellite communications. Time-consuming, error prone manual tracking methods are now a thing of the past.

All the information is delivered to your desktop through the OverSight Dashboard. When you need a specific vehicle, piece of equipment or trailer, you will know where it is and how it is immediately.

To make sure you are not overwhelmed with data, all incoming information is checked for readings that fall outside settings you set up. If something needs your attention, an email or mobile text message will automatically be sent. This message will contain everything you need to take action.

Overview

The OverSight system from Locus Traxx makes sure every piece of equipment you own and operates provides you with the highest levels of utilization, the least amount of fuel waste and unauthorized use, and the longest useful life.

OverSight does this by making each piece of equipment self-reporting.  Self-reporting equipment continuously sends real-time information on its location and status to your desktop.  Manual methods of equipment tracking with their delays and flaws are now a thing of the past.

SMARTTAG™ SENSORS
A combination of rugged SmartTag sensors continuously monitor a variety of equipment conditions.  SmartTag sensors can monitor, engine hours, fuel level, temperature, security and other conditions.

Sensors use sophisticated, long-range RFID to communicate their readings wirelessly at regular intervals.  Sensor readings are transmitted automatically to the OverSight data center by the SmartTraxx telematics module that accompanies every piece of equipment.   Even unpowered equipment like trailers and tool boxes can become self-reporting.

SMART TRAXX™ LOCATION AND COMMUNICATIONS
SmartTraxx telematics modules gather sensor readings and add GPS location data.  This critical information is then sent wirelessly to the OverSight data center for analysis, reporting and Intelligent Alerts.

You can choose between low-cost cellular communications or use satellite communications if you need coverage in remote areas.

ANALYSIS AND REPORTING
All incoming data are analyzed for potential issues.  If an issue is detected - such as piece of equipment where it shouldn't be, operating when it should be idle, or operating outside of an acceptable range - the OverSight system will automatically issue an Intelligent Alert.

INTELLIGENT ALERTS
Intelligent Alerts are email or text messages sent to the individuals responsible for the equipment.  Each Intelligent Alert contains all the information you need to take action.  This includes the reason for the alert, the current location of the piece of equipment, the current status, and contact information for the operator or project manager.

OVERSIGHT DASHBOARD™
All information is instantly available online through the easy-to-use OverSight DashBoard.  The OverSight Dashboard lets you quickly look up the status and location of a piece of equipment or choose from a number of pre-formatted reports.

Use Cases

USE CASE – EXTEND EQUIPMENT LIFE
“Purchasing new equipment just isn’t an option right now.  I need to do everything I can to extend the life of my existing equipment.

The Intelligent Alerts OverSight sends out make it easy to schedule and perform the regular maintenance that’s so critical to extending the life of my equipment.  It’s a simple and effective way to make sure my current equipment lasts longer ”

USE CASE – UNAUTHORIZED USE
“Unauthorized equipment use increases our fuel and maintenance costs.  It also throws off our maintenance schedule.

OverSight sends me a message if a piece of equipment is working when it should be idle, or when a piece of equipment travels beyond a pre-set boundary.  OverSight can even tell me when fuel levels decline without equipment use due to excessive dwell or fuel theft.

My operators are all aware that OverSight is monitoring our equipment.  Knowing that use and location are being monitored has been a strong deterrent to unauthorized use.”

USE CASE – EQUIPMENT RETRIEVAL
“It doesn’t happen often, but when a piece of equipment isn’t where it should be, I can use the OverSight DashBoard to quickly and easily find out where it is.

Having location information for each piece of equipment constantly updated and available at my fingertips aids in quickly recovering missing equipment.  I can even get location information on non-powered equipment such as trailers.”

USE CASE – EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY
“When I receive a request for a piece of equipment, I use the OverSight DashBoard to look up the current location and status of the equipment I need.  I can quickly identify the nearest piece of equipment and know that it’s ready for service.  I can even match it to an available trailer since OverSight also tracks my unpowered equipment.

The speed of access and the accuracy of the equipment location and status information lets me get the most use out of my current equipment.”

FAQ

Q: How does the OverSight system work?
A: The OverSight system makes anything self-reporting.  It does this through a combination of active RFID sensors that detect and communicate changes in conditions.  Sensors continuously transmit their readings to a Smart Traxx communication module attached to a piece of equipment.  The Smart Traxx communication module adds GPS location data and sends the information to the Smart Traxx data center for analysis, reporting and, when required, Intelligent Alerts.

Q: What kind of things can OverSight monitor and report ?
A: New sensor capabilities are being added all the time.  Most commonly we detect and report: location, temperature, engine hours, fuel use, movement and security (based on door open, define location areas and defined hours of use).

Q: Can I monitor and report multiple things on one piece of equipment?
A: You can absolutely monitor and get information on multiple conditions from one piece of equipment.  A fairly typical example is location, engine hours, security, temperature and fuel use.  Other data points can be derived from these including unauthorized use, fuel theft, excessive dwell and travel to an unauthorized location.

Q: How hard is it to change what I choose to monitor?
A: It’s very easy to change what you monitor.  Our Smart Traxx equipment supports over-the-air programming.  There is no need to revisit a piece of equipment unless you want to add new sensors.

Q: How frequently is the information sent?
A: Information is sent as frequently as the customer wants.  This can be every minute, daily or anything in between.

Q: What can I do with all that data?
A: To make sure you are not overwhelmed with data, Locus Traxx inspects the incoming data for any readings that fall outside the settings you established.  For example, if a piece of equipment has excessive dwell (engine running and equipment not moving), you will get an Intelligent Alert.  Intelligent Alerts are sent as text or email messages when a reading indicates the need for action.  All the data collected are also available online for quick review or reporting through the OverSight Dashboard.

Q: What information is included in an Intelligent Alert message?
A: The information contained in an Intelligent Alert message is customized for each customer but usually contains:

  • Date and time the alert is issued,
  • Information about the device being tracked such as vehicle type and vehicle ID,
  • Operator information (when relevant) such as name and cell phone,
  • Type of alert (such as unauthorized use or excessive dwell), and
  • Ideal reading and current reading (such as ideal and current dwell time).

Q: What happens when an Intelligent Alert is sent?
A: Each Intelligent Alert needs to be cleared through some action.  For a vehicle with excessive dwell, this might be a call to the operator or job site to determine why the vehicle is running.
Once the Intelligent Alert is cleared, the alert will be removed from the alerts displayed on the online OverSight Dashboard.
The OverSight system will record the action that was taken to clear the alert, when the action was taken, and who took the action.  This record can be a very helpful diagnostic tool to eliminate the cause of repeated alerts.

Q: What if I want to change an Intelligent Alert setting?
A: Intelligent Alert settings are easily changed online through the OverSight DashBoard.  The only requirement is that your user ID has the rights to make the change.

Q: How do I get access to the online reports in the OverSight Dashboard?
A: The online reports are available through the OverSight DashBoard to anyone with a valid user ID and password.  You can log into the reports from locustraxx.com/login.html.  If you need a user ID and password you can contact your program administrator or Locus Traxx support at 561-665-5560.

Q: What happens if the system stops working or I have a problem?
A: Locus Traxx provides 24 hour phone support and online text support during normal business hours.

Q: What is the phone support number?
A: The phone number for technical support is 561-665-5560.

Q: Where does power come from?
A: Our wireless Smart Traxx sensors are battery powered.  For the Smart Traxx GPS and communication modules we offer both wireless, solar power and wired power options.  The selection is based on the needs of the customer and the type of installation.
