Food Safety

The OverSight™ system from Locus Traxx ensures food safety and security by making your shipments self-reporting.

The OverSight™ system blends sophisticated SmartTraxx™ telematics with innovative, SmartTag™ wireless sensors to continuously monitor and instantly send data on shipment temperature, door security and location from shipments on the road to your computer or Smartphone.

When any issue is detected, Intelligent Alert text and email messages are automatically sent.  This gives you and your team the information you need, when you need it.

Sounds complicated - yet we make it easy.

Sounds expensive - but we've made it very reasonable.

No driver involvement.  No power required.  Simply put the sytem in place and it will start notifiying you of shipment details.

How the OverSightTM System Works

SmartTag™ wireless sensors detect and continuously report: shipment temperature, door open, and other conditions.

A SmartTraxx™ GPS location, SmartTag™ reader and communication module adds GPS location data to the SmartTag™ sensor readings and continually transmits those data using either low cost cellular or satellite communications.  You get continuous, real-time status and location data from anywhere on the planet to wherever you are on the planet.

Too hot. Too cold. Door open when it should be closed. Shipment somewhere it shouldn't be.  All the information you need to ensure the quality, safety, and security of your shipments and equipment is available from any computer or Smartphone thanks to the OverSight™ system.

Overview

The OverSightTM system from Locus Traxx makes sure every product you ship arrives its freshest and safest.

OverSightTM does this by making each shipment self-reporting.  Self-reporting shipments continuously send real-time information on the shipment temperature, door security and location to your computer.  The pack-and-pray method of shipping perishables and other temperature–sensitive products is now a thing of the past.

SMARTTAG™ SENSORS
A combination of rugged SmartTagTM sensors continuously monitor a variety of environmental conditions.  Sensors can measure, temperature, door security humidity, shock, and other conditions that influence product quality and safety.

Sensors use sophisticated, long-range RFID to communicate their readings wirelessly at regular intervals.  Sensor readings are transmitted automatically to the OverSightTM data center by a SmartTraxxTM mobile communication module that accompanies every shipment.

SMARTTRAXX™ LOCATION AND COMMUNICATIONS
Smart TraxxTM communication modules gather sensor readings and add GPS location data.  This critical information is then sent wirelessly to the OverSightTM data center for analysis, reporting and Intelligent Alerts.

You can choose between low-cost cellular communications or use satellite communications if you need coverage in remote areas.

ANALYSIS AND REPORTING
All incoming data are analyzed for potential issues.  If an issue is detected - such as an out of range temperature reading or a vehicle where it shouldn’t be – the OverSightTM system automatically issues an Intelligent Alert.

INTELLIGENT ALERTS
Intelligent Alerts are email and text messages sent to the individuals responsible for the shipment.  Each Intelligent Alert contains all the information you need to take action.  This includes the reason for the alert, the current location of the shipment, the current status, and contact information for the driver.

OVERSIGHT DASHBOARD™
All information is instantly available online through the easy-to-use OverSight DashBoardTM.  The OverSight DashboardTM lets you quickly look up the status of a shipment or choose from a number of pre-formatted reports.

Use Cases

USE CASE – FOOD SAFETY
“After all the steps I take to assure food quality, it’s frustrating to have temperature abuse during transportation cause shorter shelf life or product spoilage.  With OverSight I don’t have to worry about every shipment.  Intelligent Alerts notify me if there is something that needs my attention.  I get a message with all the information I need to act quickly.  This information really helps me extend my product safety practices right into the trailer.”

USE CASE – SECURITY
“Product theft is an issue.  Because OverSight monitors and reports unauthorized door open events, I have a much better ability to identify and prevent theft.  Intelligent Alerts notify me if a trailer has a door open and is not at a scheduled stop.  I can also see how long a door is left open.  Both events have an impact on the security and quality of my shipments.”

USE CASE – CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
“I want my products to be as fresh when they are delivered as when I load them.  But once I put my products on a truck, I used to lose all control over product quality.  With OverSight, I’m able to continuously monitor the temperature and location of every shipment.  If something happens, I can contact my customer and either request special handling, a closer inspection, or let them know I’m sending a replacement shipment.  The ability to detect problems before they occur has substantially improved my customer satisfaction.”

USE CASE – CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
“I use the sensor and location information gathered and reported by OverSight to review our practices.  Should I change routes?  Do some drivers handle certain routes better than others?  Do some trailers seem to hold temperature better on routes with multiple stops?  I can use the detailed in transit monitoring data to make changes that improve my performance and better maintain the quality of my products. Reviewing reports after I make the changes confirms the improvement.”

FAQ

Q: How does the OverSight system work?
A: The OverSight system makes anything self-reporting.  It does this through a combination of active RFID sensors that detect and communicate changes in conditions.  Sensors continuously transmit their readings to a Smart Traxx communication module attached to the vehicle.  The Smart Traxx communication module adds GPS location data and sends the information to the Smart Traxx data center for analysis, reporting and, when required, Intelligent Alerts.

Q: What kind of things can OverSight monitor and report ?
A: New sensor capabilities are being added all the time.  Most commonly we detect and report: location, temperature, engine hours, fuel use, movement and security (based on door open).

Q: Can I monitor and report multiple things on one shipment or one piece of equipment?
A: You can absolutely monitor and get information on multiple conditions.  A fairly typical example is location, temperature, security and fuel use.   Other data points can be derived from these including unauthorized use, fuel theft, excessive dwell and unauthorized location.

Q: How hard is it to change what I choose to monitor?
A: It’s very easy to change monitor settings.  Our Smart Traxx equipment supports over-the-air programming.  There is no need to revisit the equipment unless you need to add a new sensor.

Q: How frequently is the information sent?
A: Information is sent as frequently as the customer wants.  This can be every minute, daily or anything in between.

Q: What can I do with all that data?
A: To make sure you are not overwhelmed with data, Locus Traxx inspects the incoming data for any readings that fall outside the settings you established.  For example, if the temperature of a frozen shipment starts to trend toward thawing, you will get an Intelligent Alert.  Intelligent Alerts are text or email messages that alert you to the need for action.  All the data collected is available, all the time, online for reporting.

Q: What information is included in an Intelligent Alert message?
A: The information contained in an Intelligent Alert is unique for each customer but usually contains:

  • Date and time the alert is issued,
  • Information about the device being tracked such as vehicle or shipment ID,
  • Driver information (when relevant) such as name and phone,
  • Type of alert (such as unauthorized use or out of range temperature reading), and
  • Ideal reading and current reading (such as ideal and current temperature).

Q: What happens when an Intelligent Alert is sent?
A: Each Intelligent Alert needs to be cleared through some action.  For a shipment with a temperature problem, this might be a call to the driver to inspect his reefer setting.
Once the Intelligent Alert is cleared, the alert will be removed from the alerts displayed on the online OverSight Dashboard.
The OverSight system will record the action that was taken to clear the alert, when the action was taken and who took the action.  This record can be a very helpful diagnostic tool to eliminate the cause of repeated alerts.

Q: What if I want to change Intelligent Alert settings?
A: Intelligent Alert settings can be easily changed on line through the OverSight DashBoard.  The only requirement is that your user ID has been given the rights to make the change.

Q: How do I get access to the online reports?
A: The online reports are available through the OverSight DashBoard to anyone with a valid user ID and password. You can log into the reports from locustraxx.com/login.htm. If you need a user ID and password you can contact your program administrator or Locus Traxx support at 561-665-5560.

Q: What happens if the system stops working or I have a problem?
A: Locus Traxx provides 24 hour phone support and online text support during normal business hours.

Q: What is the phone support number?
A: The phone number for technical support is 561-665-5560.

Q: Where does power come from?
A: Our wireless Smart Traxx sensors are battery powered.  For the Smart Traxx GPS and communication modules we offer both wireless, solar power and wired power options.  The selection is based on the needs of the customer and the type of installation.
